Terracotta amphora with a generous symmetrical body, rounded base, and cylindrical neck ending in a small mouth. Two vertical handles rise from the shoulders to the neck, each finished with an expressive twist that gives the piece movement and character.

The body was intentionally left unglazed, exposing the raw terracotta surface and preserving visible marks from the wheel-throwing and firing process. In contrast, the handles are partially covered with a vitreous glaze in warm orange and brown tones, applied irregularly so that it softly drips across the surface. This contrast between raw clay and glazed detail creates a balance between utility and ornament.

Originally from Puglia, southern Italy, the piece dates from the mid to late 19th century. The concentration of glaze on the upper section reflects traditional functional practices, protecting the areas of greatest contact during use while making the vessel easier to clean. This practical gesture simultaneously gives the object a spontaneous and expressive visual quality.

Today, the amphora works as a sculptural decorative object, whether displayed on its own or incorporated into a collection of antique Mediterranean pottery. Its earthy surface and restrained palette allow it to integrate naturally into rustic, minimal, or contemporary interiors.
