Antique French Saint-Clément Majolica Fruit Plates, Set of Ten, Circa 1900–1930
$2,145.00
A charming and increasingly scarce set of ten antique French majolica plates produced by Saint-Clément, one of France’s most celebrated faience manufactories. Dating to the early twentieth century, each plate features a different fruit motif modeled in relief and hand-painted in vibrant naturalistic colors, including peaches, grapes, berries and other orchard fruits.
Executed in richly glazed majolica with finely molded details, the plates embody the naturalistic decorative tradition for which Saint-Clément became renowned during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. The varied fruit compositions create a lively yet cohesive set, while the subtle craquelure developed over time adds depth and authenticity that only age can impart.
Beautiful for display, collecting, or use in an eclectic table setting, the set captures the warmth and artistry of French country house ceramics. Complete sets of this size are increasingly difficult to find, making it an especially appealing offering for collectors of antique majolica and French faience.
