Antique Collection of Five Carpet Beaters, Wood and Wire, Circa 1900

An exceptional collection of five antique carpet and rug beaters dating to around 1900, each formed from hand-shaped metal wire and finished with a turned wooden handle. Created as practical household tools, the five examples display distinct looped, teardrop and openwork configurations.

Before the widespread use of electric vacuum cleaners, rugs and carpets were carried outdoors, suspended and struck repeatedly to release dust embedded within their fibers. Gathered as a collection, the five objects move beyond their original purpose and become a remarkably expressive sculptural ensemble.

Mounted vertically or arranged in a fan-shaped composition, the five beaters create a striking wall installation, equally suited to primitive, country, farmhouse, rustic, industrial or contemporary interiors.

Condition: Good, age-appropriate wear; wooden handles show patina and surface marks; metal wire has oxidation and minor distortions. Individual beaters range from 30-35 in H x 6-10 in W.
