Embroidery Linen
For centuries, embroidery, knitting, crochet and lacemaking were far more than household chores. They were forms of knowledge passed down from one generation to the next and, for many women, one of the few territories where they could develop a voice of their own.
This collection brings together different expressions of that universe: embroidery, crochet, filet, needle lace, bobbin lace, tape lace and other handmade techniques created to dress the home, the kitchen and the table.
Behind each piece there is a craft, but also a social story. Hours rarely accounted for, skills learned and inherited, codes, symbols and ways of expression that found in everyday objects a place to endure.
Long dismissed as minor arts because they belonged to the feminine and domestic sphere, these practices allow us to read another part of our past. They speak of labor, identity, transmission and memory.
These are not simply antique textiles. They are documents of a history written in thread.
