Set of Six Vintage Linen Placemats with Lace Trim and Embroidery

A beautiful set of six vintage linen placemats featuring an elaborate filet lace trim and delicate inset cutwork embroidery. Each piece reflects the refined tradition of decorative table linens, in which practical objects were transformed into expressions of craftsmanship, domestic elegance, and hospitality.

Filet lace trim uses an open, net-like structure worked with decorative stitching, while inset cutwork embroidery is created by removing selected areas of fabric and securing the remaining threads to form ornamental openings. Both techniques require patience and a precise understanding of thread, tension and proportion.

The placemats come from a collector's personal assembly, gathered through estate sales between the 1970s and 1990s and preserved for over twenty-five years.

They show authentic age-related wear, including discoloration and delicate tears in the lacework, consistent with antique textiles that have been used and kept over decades.
