Vintage Silver-Tone Escargot Plates, Set of Five

A set of five vintage escargot plates in silver-tone metal, each with a wide, lobed rim and six rounded wells — one at the center surrounded by five more — arranged in a flower-like pattern. A raised circular border frames the interior against the gently undulating outer edge.

The recessed wells were built for one job: cradling individual snail shells in place during presentation, so the practical function is what actually creates the decorative rhythm of the piece. Nothing about the form is arbitrary.
