Set of Glazed Jugs
$720.00
Set composed of two hand-thrown ceramic jugs, both with a lateral handle and a pouring spout. The first features a globular body narrowing toward a slightly flared neck, decorated with reddish-brown glaze on the upper section and a distinctive pattern of vertical ochre lines over a light background on the lower part. The second, with a more slender silhouette, combines a honey-brown glaze on the upper section with an unglazed base, revealing the natural tone of the clay.
These pieces are examples of traditional utilitarian pottery from Puglia, in southern Italy, dating from the mid to late 19th century. They were made to hold and serve liquids in rural domestic contexts, using glaze to waterproof the interior and leaving the base unglazed to facilitate firing in the kiln. Their artisanal craftsmanship and the variations in glaze application make each one unique, now serving as decorative accents with a strong historical and artisanal character.
