Mid-Century Holland Floral Tin Nesting Canister Set of Four

An atmospheric set of four mid-century nesting canisters made in Holland, formed from decorated tinplate and graduated in size so that each vessel fits inside the next. Each cylindrical canister has its own fitted lid and raised arched metal handle, covered with dense floral ornament in muted celadon green, warm cream, red, yellow, and black.

Decorated tin canisters emerged from the meeting of industrial production and domestic aspiration. In the postwar kitchen, containers such as these helped transform the pantry into a carefully ordered and visually expressive part of the home.

This set shows evidence of its long domestic life, including oxidation to the undersides and interiors, surface wear, and areas of finish loss, which form an essential part of the objects' present character. Best considered for decorative display given the interior oxidation. For shipment and compact storage, the four canisters nest one inside another.

Condition: Fair, wear consistent with age and use. Dimensions (largest canister): 7 in H x 6 in W x 6 in D.
