Elegant pair of decorative Murano glass bases, crafted using the Sommerso technique and presented in a refined fumé gray tone. Both pieces bear the Murano mark, reinforcing their identity as Venetian glass objects and confirming their place within the artistic glassmaking tradition of the island.

The Italian term Sommerso, meaning "submerged," describes a technique in which contrasting layers of colored glass are superimposed and contained within one another without fully blending. The result is extraordinary visual depth: light passes through the layers, reflects along their edges, and produces subtle variations of color and transparency depending on the angle from which each piece is viewed.

This technique gained particular recognition in Murano during the 1950s and 1960s, at the height of Italian mid-century design, when glassmakers explored sculptural forms, solid volumes, polished surfaces, and layered color combinations that transformed decorative objects into small works of art.

The fumé gray tone gives these bases a restrained, architectural, and highly versatile presence. Their partial transparency and substantial forms allow them to function both as independent sculptural objects and as elements within a decorative arrangement.

Sold as a pair. Condition: Good. Dimensions: 7.5 in H x 4.5 in W x 2 in D and 7 in H x 4 in W x 2 in D.
