Sculptural Murano Glass Vase, Sommerso Technique, Circa 1960
Sculptural Murano glass vase dating from circa 1960–1970, created within the tradition of Italian Mid-Century Modern art glass. The compact, vertically oriented form is carved into a series of sharply defined geometric facets, producing a prismatic silhouette that changes with every angle of view.
The piece features purple inner glass within a transparent outer casing using the celebrated Sommerso technique, in which layers of colored glass are submerged one inside another while hot. The faceted surfaces are characteristic of the style associated with Alessandro Mandruzzato, whose workshop became known for cold-carved geometric treatments of Sommerso glass.
Dimensions: 8.2 in H x 4 in W x 4 in D.
