A striking vintage clear crystal vase designed by Sven Palmqvist for Orrefors, distinguished by its architectural rectangular form and deeply cut geometric grid pattern. The lower portion is composed of bold, projecting blocks arranged in horizontal and vertical bands, while the upper section rises in cleaner vertical facets, creating a sophisticated transition between weight, transparency, and light.

The form corresponds to Orrefors model P 4238, documented as a design by Sven Palmqvist. Comparable signed examples bear the inscription “Orrefors P 4238 231.” Palmqvist joined Orrefors in 1928 and became one of the most influential figures in twentieth-century Swedish glass, known for combining traditional crystal craftsmanship with experimental, strongly sculptural modern design.

Founded in the Swedish province of Småland in 1898, Orrefors became internationally celebrated for its exceptional crystal and for the close collaboration between master glassworkers and leading designers. Palmqvist’s work was central to that reputation. In this vase, the repeated grid creates an almost architectural façade, allowing the heavy crystal to refract and multiply light while maintaining the disciplined simplicity associated with Scandinavian Modernism.

Both functional and sculptural, the vase is especially effective with a restrained floral arrangement, though its geometric precision and substantial presence allow it to stand confidently as a decorative object on its own. It is a refined example of postwar Swedish crystal design and an appealing piece for collectors of Orrefors, Sven Palmqvist, and Scandinavian decorative arts.

Good vintage condition with wear consistent with age and use. Light surface marks or minor scratches may be present. Please review all photographs carefully, as they form an important part of the description.
