Vintage Fenton-Attributed Wild Rose Overlay Hobnail Milk Glass Rose Bowl
A richly sculptural vintage American milk-glass rose bowl, conservatively attributed to Fenton and dating to approximately 1950. The rounded vessel combines an opaque white exterior with a vivid rose-pink interior, creating a dramatic layered-glass effect often described by collectors as rose or wild rose overlay. Its bulbous body is covered with the iconic hobnail texture—orderly rows of raised glass droplets that catch the light and give the surface exceptional depth—while the upper edge opens into a deeply ruffled, hand-worked rim with flashes of saturated pink along every fold. Seen from above, the luminous interior resembles the center of an opening flower; from the side, the crisp milk-white hobnails and fluid pink crest create a striking contrast between texture and color. This combination is closely associated with Fenton’s celebrated mid-century American art-glass production, although the present piece is unmarked and the attribution is therefore intentionally stated with caution. Today, the bowl has value not only as collectible vintage glass but as a highly adaptable decorative object. It can hold a small floral arrangement, serve as an expressive centerpiece on a dining table, console or coffee table, or remain empty as a piece of sculptural color. The white body works easily in traditional, romantic and contemporary rooms, while the exuberant pink interior introduces warmth and personality without overwhelming a setting. Its strong silhouette, tactile hobnail surface and handcrafted-looking ruffle make it especially appealing in layered interiors where older objects bring individuality, craftsmanship and visual history to the home.
