Vintage L.E. Smith Green Textured Glass Canisters Set, 1970

Exceptional vintage set of four graduated green textured glass canisters, attributed to L.E. Smith and retaining their corresponding glass lids. Each lid is crowned by an integrated rectangular handle. The vivid green color, finely textured surface and ornamental scroll band create a striking contrast of texture, relief and transparency.

L.E. Smith belongs to the important glassmaking tradition of western Pennsylvania. Established in 1907, the company united utility, color and boldly molded designs, transforming everyday objects into expressive elements of the interior. The intense green recalls American enthusiasm for colored glass during the 1960s and 1970s.

A single canister preserves the memory of a function; four create a complete system, their progression of heights establishing rhythm, hierarchy and balance.

Condition: Excellent overall vintage condition; the second-largest canister has one small chip to the inner rim. Largest canister 11 in H x 5.875 in W x 5.875 in D, graduating to 5.25 in H x 4.25 in W.
